Drivers who lack rest are at risk for car accidents. While there are many drunk and drugged drivers who do not obey traffic rules, some accidents are caused by drivers who unintentionally doze off at the wheel, or whose reflexes are dulled by an overworked body.

According to police records and studies, fatigue plays a huge role in injury and car related accidents. If you are driving long distance, follow these tips:

• Don’t go on a drive when you’re tired. No matter how hard you try, you will end up feeling sleepy during the trip. Spare yourself from being sick and stressed, and take a rest before you take the wheel. 

• Take 15-minute rests every three hours of driving. Stop by a safe place and take a power nap. If you do not intend on sleeping long hours, do not go beyond your 15-minute nap. You might end up feeling groggy if you nap longer.

• Do not drive for more than eight (8) hours a day. If you have a companion who can drive, share driving responsibilities and go on four-hour shifts.

• Don’t eat heavy meals, but take light snacks instead. Eating heavy, carb-loaded meals can make you feel sleepy. Settle for water, crackers, and energy drink while you’re on the road.

Progressive entrepreneurs have begun tying up with other retail companies to offer other products such as automotive parts or brake fuel.

Rainbow Bridge Animal Rescue: Connecting Furry Friends to their Forever Homes

According to DoSomething.org, there are approximately 2.7 million cats and dogs killed annually because shelters cannot handle the influx of strays, and there aren’t too many homes willing or able to adopt the animals. To help do their part in keeping these numbers down, the people behind Rainbow Bridge Animal Rescue in The Woodlands, Texas, have dedicated their time and resources to keeping strays off the streets.

Though officially launched in 2015, Rainbow Bridge Animal Rescue has been around in some form for nearly than 20 years now, initially as one of Petroleum Wholesale’s philanthropic causes. Before the formation of Rainbow Bridge Animal Rescue, the fuel company provided funding for a private animal rescue and adoption service but now with the establishment of the not-for-profit organization and the acquisition of a 10-acre property in Conroe, Texas, the company is now looking to extend its rescue efforts.

Rainbow Bridge Animal Rescue aims to be a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility and temporary housing for abandoned, abused, and neglected animals where Rainbow Bridge’s employees and can care for them while helping these critters look for their true forever homes.

In addition to the property in Conroe, Rainbow Bridge Animal Rescue is also developing 300-acres of land in Leon County, Texas, which will serve as a place where larger rescued animals can find sanctuary and respite.

The Story Behind the Concept: The Birth of Main Street Market

Main Street Market is not your average gas station. Featuring a unique combination of retail options, this pioneering brand of travel centers is poised to dot the traffic arteries of the Western United States, with three locations currently constructed and several more well on the way.

The Main Street Market brand of travel center, with its assortment of retail, dining, and fuel options, was the brainchild of Petroleum Wholesale, LP, a Texas-based company founded in 1973 that owns and operates several retail, fast food, and fuel station operations throughout nine states in the region. It can trace its origins to the development drives of the company's president, John Cook, who had a vision for the company’s future.

One of the facilities that would bear the name Main Street Market was a 40-year-old facility in Texas, located in Interstate 20 between Midland and Odessa. Although aging and in desperate need of renovation, the facility was still considerably profitable as a fuel station, making it an ideal choice for the company to build its retail concept.

The end result was a hybrid travel center that featured a 20,000-square-foot truck repair facility, 175-space RV park, and 40,000 square feet of retail space, open year long and accessible 24 hours a day. Stores include a discount grocery store, Steak 'n Shake, Subway, a full-service convenience store, Carquest auto/truck parts store, and an Ace Hardware. In addition, this new Main Street Market had a feature it shared with its parent company, a fenced pet area for traveler's dogs to stretch their legs.

Thus far, three Main Street Markets have been built. Others like it will soon be developed as the flagship locations and its successors take root.
