Road trip destinations in Texas

Texas is one of the best places to have memorable road trips in. Not just because fuel is abundant in the state, but there is so much to see in Texas. There are white sands and deep canyons that make the long drives enriching experiences. A few of the best destinations in the Lone Star State are the following:

Big Bend National Park
In Southwest Texas is a national park that is a haven of temple-like canyons made up of ancient limestone. There is also a rich diversity of flora and fauna, particularly birds and cacti that make the solitary mountain range a must-visit tourist spot.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch
The protected habitat is home to emus, zebras, ostriches, giraffes, and many more animals, which make driving through the ranch quite the outdoor adventure. A half-mile from the ranch is the Natural Bridge Caverns, which offer hidden passages and lantern tours; rappelling and rock climbing can also be done in the caves.

Monahan Sandhills State Park
Just a little over an hour drive from Midland is this state park that has thousands of acres of sand dunes, which one can surf or ride on.

The Alamo
One of the best places to visit in Texas, this San Antonio destination is the site of the Battle of the Alamo during the 19th century. Not only can the locale teach a little history about the Texas Revolution, but the world-renowned Riverwalk is also an excellent place to stroll, spend the night in, and, of course, dine.

Tips For a Fun-Filled Road Trip With The Children

Check the car- A car breakdown in the middle of the road is troublesome enough for adults, how much more with the little ones? Prior to a scheduled road trip, adults must check the car for any existing and potential problems to ensure a safe and smooth ride. When traveling with toddlers, ensure that car booster seats were installed correctly.

Expect the unexpected- Babies and toddlers might spill milk, drop food, or worst, get car sick. They might also feel the need to pee or defecate anytime. So parents should make sure to pack extra clothes, first aid kit, a box of wet wipes, paper towels, diapers, and snacks that are easy to eat. For drinks, using a straw might be helpful.

Beat the boredom- Parents or guardians must prepare activities to get the children occupied. Simple activities like slug-the-bug, I Spy, or charades might be enjoyable for them. Storytelling with props usually works with the kids, too. Lastly, playing a bunch of familiar songs will also help the young ones feel comfortable.

Choose appropriate stops- If the kids are feeling extra energetic, pick a stop with a playground or any safe play place where they can release their energy. Problems might still arise, but they can be minimized with ample preparations. Road trip with the kids can then be enjoyable and memorable.

Four-legged co-Pilot: Tips for a Fun-filled Road Trip with Your Pet Dog

Everyone in the family knows that it wouldn’t be a trip to remember without your pet dog. Create great memories and have your pet tag along on a road trip. But before you get going, here are tips to ensure your pet’s safety while on the road.

Have your dog checked.
Tell your vet about your plans to bring your pet on a road trip. The doctor can prescribe meds for allergies and motion sickness, if your dog has any. Have your dog updated with vaccinations, too.

Plan your destination and look for a pet-friendly accommodation.
Make a schedule that will accommodate 15-20 minute stopovers and breaks for every four-hour drive. Plan meals and check if there are sights on the way to your destination.

Naturally, you wouldn’t want a hotel that won’t take in your dog. Search for pet-friendly options so you would not have to go from one place to another just to accommodate everyone.

Pack for your dog.
Pack a bag of essentials for your dog. Make sure you’re packing medicines, water, food, food bowl, clothing, insect repellent, blanket, and flea comb.

Maintain a routine for your dog.
Take time to walk your dog around, and help them get rid of travel anxiety. Let your dog feel as if they’re at home by maintaining a routine.
